| The
headquarters for English-language comedy in Paris have moved from
the historic Hôtel du Nord on the Canal Saint-Martin, made
famous by the 1938 Marcel Carné film of the same name, to
a club called La Java, better known for its salsa nights (which
continue). The Hôtel du Nord has been sold and is being renovated;
don’t be surprised to see a trendy café opening there
in the near future. Impresario Karel Beer's Laughing & Music
Matters showcases comics like Craig Hill, a camp comedian from Scotland,
and the hilarious Irishman Ed Byrne, a thinking man's comedian with
a fast delivery. Laughing & Music Matters also stages concerts
at La Java.
